One of the very popular summer activities among Czech people are boat trips. You would be surprised, but if you ask 10 Czech people, I can guarantee you that 9 of them have made unleast 1 boat trip in their life and 5 of them are doing it regularly. So, how does the boat trip look like? Do not even think about some motor boat or huge cruise ship – the boat trip in Czech version is sports activity and sometimes even adventure. The typical trip takes 2 or 3 days. With a bunch of your friends you rent several boats (the type that suits your skills and the type of the river where do you want to go – it can be canoe, kayak, raft or Palava – this is special type of boat, something between raft and canoe) and go down the river. Overnight you can stay in camps, either in a tent or in a small cottage. During the day you can leave the boat and make small trips – visit castles or historical cities along the river bank. Or also refresh yourself – along the most popular rivers (e.g. Vltava), there are many small pubs or just places where you can buy beer and a small food. Boat trips are really very funny and despite some amount of energy that you have to invest into it, managing a boat isn’t that difficult. Of course, you’d rather go in the time when there are no floods or other dangers. Because of the boat trips are so popular among the Czechs, there are many companies providing full service of the trips – from renting the boats and preparing them exactly on the place where do you want to start your trip, providing all other equipment that you want (helmets, safe jackets, tents,...) to providing of a skilled guide that can teach you how to drive your boat. The most popular river is Vltava because it isn’t very difficult and also because it is quite close to Prague. So if you feel ready for a small summer adventure in Czech style, say: Ahoooy and start your boat trip!
